Formerly known as Pytho, Delphi was the ancient sanctuary that housed the oracle; a priestess who acted as a medium through whom advice or prophecy was sought from the gods during the ancient classical world. 

During these times, the Greeks considered Delphi to be the centre of the world and was marked by a stone monument known as ‘the omphalos’ (the navel/belly button). It is therefore recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage site of having a great influence over the ancient world.
